Cyber attacks on Iran's petrol pumps have disrupted oil sales across the country. A hacker group claimed involvement in the attack. The name of this group in Persian is Ganjeshke Darande or the 'Hunter Sparrow'.

The hacker group said in a statement on their messaging app Telegram saying, "This cyber attack was carried out in a controlled manner so that the essential services are not damaged."

Iran-backed forces in the Middle East – such as Lebanon's Hezbollah and Yemen's Houthis – are attacking Israel. In this context, the hackers said in their statement that, "The cyber attacks are carried out in response to the aggression of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies in the Middle East."

Iran accuses them of having ties with Israel. Confirming the matter on Monday (Dec 18), the country's Oil Minister Javed Oji told state television that at least 70 percent of petrol stations have been affected, with foreign intervention being the main cause.

Later he said that currently there are 1,650 petrol stations in operation. Note that there are 3,800 petrol pumps under the supervision of Iran's Ministry of Oil.
